Dusan Tadic believes that John Heitinga has been treated unfairly by the Ajax club management. The Serbian attacker says that he was very pleased with the club icon, who took over from Alfred Schreuder at the end of January, but was sidelined after six months.

“That was simply not correct. Ajax abused him and dropped him like a stone. When Alfred Schreuder had to leave at the end of January, John Heitinga had to save the club. But a few months later he was no longer even allowed to be an assistant at the club…” , Tadic judges harshly in an interview with Football International.

The 35-year-old attacker does not think this is justified. “John gave everything for Ajax. Ajax is everything to him, his life. I experienced him as a great trainer and very pleasant person, with courage and a good personality. He patched us up, brought back a certain consciousness and is a real Ajax man.”

According to Tadic, Heitinga tried to bring back a certain mentality. “He knew what was needed, what Ajax meant. He also tried to convey that mentality and it was close to saving the season with him. Just think of that match against Feyenoord, with Kudus’ chance and then the goal against,” he refers to a 2-3 defeat in the Johan Cruijff Arena.
“Loss instead of gain. We never know how things would have turned out differently. But I think John got the most out of it. Instead of appreciation and help, he was put out on the street. I thought that was very bad,” Tadic concludes. After leaving Ajax, Heitinga started working as David Moyes’ assistant at West Ham.
