At present, the incidence of Covid-19 in Latvia is increasing again, with the number of newly detected cases increasing by 29.8% during the week, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC) informed.


The number of Covid-19 tests performed has also increased over the past week, reaching an average of 7,468 tests per day, compared to an average of 7,184 tests per day a week earlier.

On average, 60 new cases of Covid-19 were discovered per day last week, up 14 weeks from a week earlier.

An average of four Covid-19 patients per day have been hospitalized over the past seven days, and an average of 44 people have been treated in hospitals on a daily basis, compared with 53 a week earlier.

Over the last two weeks, the incidence has increased by 31.1% among 20- to 29-year-olds, while it has increased by 22.4% among 10- to 19-year-olds.

The increase in the age group from 30 to 49 years is also observed by 17.7%. Most cases of newly discovered Covid-19 were in Riga, Pieriga and Kurzeme.

The reproductive rate of Covid-19 infection has risen to 1.2, up from 1.14 a week earlier.

Thus, this indicator has reached the indicators of the beginning of May, indicating an increase in the prevalence of Covid-19 in Latvia, emphasizes the SPKC.

The average 14-day cumulative morbidity rate per 100,000 inhabitants of European countries has increased to 200.4, while a week earlier it was 151. In turn, the indicator of Latvia has increased from 27.7 to 30.5 cases.

The SPKC reports that the proportion of Covid-19 cases imported to Latvia in the previous week decreased from 27% to 15.1%, and a total of 63 such cases were recorded last week, compared to 87 a week earlier.

Between June 21 and last week, the most common cases in Latvia came from Russia – 63 cases, Turkey – 45, Great Britain – 36, Spain – 33, the Netherlands – 15, France – 14, Georgia – 14, Finland – 14, Uzbekistan – nine, Bulgaria – seven and Germany – seven. Fewer cases were imported from several other countries.

SPKC calls on the population to be vaccinated against Covid-19. It is the safest and most effective way to protect yourself from severe forms of the disease and to work together to reduce the spread of Covid-19 infection in the community.
