Lufthansa and its subsidiary Eurowings have already drastically reduced their flight schedule due to a lack of staff in-house and at ground and airport service providers. The group confirmed that Europe’s largest airline removed 900 flights across the EU from the system at the hubs in Frankfurt and Munich for July.

The cancellations affect the weekdays Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which corresponds to five percent of the planned capacity on the weekends.

Eurowings has also taken several hundred flights out of the program to stabilize the offer for the month of July. The Swiss Lufthansa subsidiary Swiss is also canceling numerous flights to Germany, including to Dresden, Berlin and Stuttgart.

The entire aviation industry, especially in Europe, is currently suffering from bottlenecks and staff shortages – from passenger control to aircraft handling and flight attendants. There is a lack of employees who looked for other jobs during the pandemic.

In addition: With Ryanair, the first airline is turning the price screw for flight tickets. “We expect an increase of five to ten percent,” says Ryanair Germany boss Andreas Gruber.

Reason: the negative consequences of the Ukraine war. Nevertheless, Ryanair expects more passengers than before.
