From March 15 to 26, the international military exercise “Crystal Arrow 2021” will take place at and around the Ādaži landfill. The aim of the training is to improve the co-operation and interoperability of units in the performance of common tasks, including the simultaneous execution of defense, deterrence and attack operations, as well as the certification of the NATO Extended Presence Battlegroup in Latvia.

According to the Ministry of Defense, about 1,700 soldiers from Albania, the USA, the Czech Republic, Italy, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Germany will take part in the training.

The “Crystal Arrow” exercise is an international military exercise whose main purpose is to train the cooperation and interoperability of the Land Forces Mechanized Infantry Brigade and Allied Armed Forces in the performance of common tasks by improving command command capabilities and battle planning procedures. Other units of the National Armed Forces, including the Air Force, the 3rd Regional Support Center of the Security Command, the National Armed Forces Headquarters Battalion, the 17th Battle Support Battalion of the National Guard and the 36th Battle Support Battalion of the National Guard, will also take part in the exercise.

During military exercises and exercises, military equipment of both Latvian and allied armed forces will move along Latvian roads, but military aircraft and helicopters will fly in the airspace. The Armed Forces apologizes for the inconvenience and asks for an understanding of the possible temporary obstruction of traffic that may occur due to the increased movement of military equipment on the roads. Military equipment columns are accompanied by the Military Police or the Relocation Coordination Center. When approaching a column of military equipment, the armed forces call on drivers to follow the rules of the road and not to obstruct the movement of the columns, for example, trying to overtake it.

Residents are urged not to worry when they also see the movement of soldiers and bodyguards outside the military landfills and unit locations, the deployment of machinery and other equipment and the taking of positions in various parts of Latvia. During training outside the landfills, only training ammunition and combat simulations will be used, which create noise but do not endanger human health and life. However, when unknown objects are found in the study places, it is forbidden to touch or move them. The areas will be cleaned up after the training.

The Ministry recalls that the multinational battle group in Latvia is led by Canada and consists of more than 1,500 soldiers from Albania, the Czech Republic, Italy, Iceland, Canada, Montenegro, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain, who rotate on duty in Latvia, participating in joint exercises. with the National Armed Forces, thus improving interoperability with regional allies to respond to security environment challenges.
