He claims to have shot the feline by accident. A 30-year-old man was recently sentenced by the Marseille Criminal Court (Bouches-du-Rhône) for killing his partner’s cat with a rifle shot in December 2022.
As related Provence, an argument would have broken out within this couple residing in the Marseille city after the thirties had noticed that the pet of his spouse had “urinated on his towel”. Mad with anger, the individual would have taken out his “air rifle” and shot the cat who was on the balcony, mortally wounding him.

Also according to the regional daily, the spouses remained together following this incident, but the 30-year-old was again violent and even threatening towards his partner a few days later, leading the young woman to file a complaint. “She refused to cook me and I probably said I was going to kill her, in the midst of the argument, I got angry, but I always took care of her and I don’t I never touched her”, commented the young man in court.
During his trial, the defendant also argued that he had not intentionally killed his partner’s cat. “I made the child, I stupidly shot a flowerpot for fun and I killed the cat,” he explained, still quoted by La Provence. Finally found guilty of death threats against his partner and abuse of an animal, the 30-year-old was sentenced to six months in prison with probation. It is also forbidden to get in touch with his former companion.
