Durán enters the Boston COVID list

BOSTON – The Boston Red Sox placed outfielder Jarren Duran on the COVID-19 inactive list on Friday, bringing the club’s total number of similarly-placed players to nine in the space of a week.

The Red Sox announced the measure before Friday night’s game against the Cleveland Indians.

Puerto Rican pilot Alex Cora had said that Durán was not feeling well and would not be with the team because they were testing him.

The club announced just hours after Duran was added to the roster, which has continued to grow since Boston added two infielders, Puerto Rican Kiké Hernández and Christian Arroyo, on Aug. 27.

Hernandez was feeling better but is unlikely to return to the lineup this weekend, Cora said. Arroyo could return in the middle of next week and shortstop Xander Bogaerts, pulled from one game and placed on the roster, could return by the end of next week, the pilot added.

Four pitchers: Venezuelan Martín Pérez, Matt Barnes, Josh Taylor and Japan’s Hirokazu Sawamura as well as Dominican infielder Yairo Muñoz were also included in the list this week.
