Colombian President Iván Duque dedicated today to promoting his country to investors on Wall Street, the financial capital of New York, to whom he explained his country’s progress in the so-called “green taxonomy.”
Duque, who has come to this trip accompanied by several ministers and members of his cabinet, ended the day as a special guest of the traditional “ringing of the bell” with which the Stock Exchange on Wall Street closes every day, after having spent a long day where he served as “maximum ambassador” of his country.
“Today is a historic day for Colombia,” Duque told the media just before the bell rang; “We have put the country on the investment radar, and especially green investments,” and ruled out that investors are concerned about the political moment the country is experiencing, on the eve of the presidential elections on May 29.
The president said that the investors with whom he met “always have questions”, to which he responded with this statement: that “modern democracies are threatened by the three P’s: populism, post-truth and polarization”, but said that his government has a maxim: “respect the private sector”.
“I have not the slightest doubt that the country will say NO to populism,” he concluded, with a phrase in an internal Colombian key.

Duque had begun his day meeting with the directors of Goldman Sachs, to whom he presented his plans for energy transition, green taxes and carbon market, emphasizing the interest that this sector can have for a foreign investor with the message that “a dollar invested in Colombia is a cleaner dollar”.
That meeting was followed by another with businessmen, financiers and international investors, to whom he did not hesitate to proclaim that “Colombia is the most important country to invest in Latin America, not only because of the strength and stability of our democracy, but also because we have We’ve made the right decisions and we’ve made the right reforms at the right time.
The president reminded them that in 2021 the Colombian GDP rose by 10.6%, while he has managed to “protect our network of national solidarity” put to the test by the pandemic.
Lastly, Duque spoke at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) where he officially presented the Green Taxonomy program in the presence of NYSE Vice President John Tuttle and the World Bank Group General Manager, Anshula Kant.
To them and other directors of the New York Stock Exchange, he presented Colombia as the first Latin American country to promote green investments with a quantifiable measurement system that allows establishing which investments meet ecological objectives.
Tomorrow, Duque has another day of work at the United Nations headquarters, which in this case will be focused on the peace process that his country is experiencing and that has already completed five years, a process that, despite the fact that it has not managed to stop the violence , has at least exceptional value for having the full international support of all countries.
