Armand Duplantis impressed when he managed six yards out Karlstad rain last.
In tonight’s Diamond League gala in Oslo, the 21-year-old sharpened his form further.
“Mondo” stepped in at 5.61 and then he took 5.81 off just the speed. A height that both world number two (5.92) Renaud Lavillenie and Sam Kendricks took over.
The American Kendricks also managed 5.91, but when Duplantis managed 6.01, it meant not only a Swedish victory – but also a new stadium record at Bislett in Oslo. That with parents Helena and Greg Duplantis in place.
After that, Duplantis chose to raise the bar to 6.19, which would mean a new world record. But there was no new world record. Duplantis tore down all attempts, the first of which was not too far away.
– It’s not far away. This guy is in great shape! These are extremely small margins, says SVT’s expert Alhaji Jeng.
Armand Duplantis holds the record of 6.18, which he passed in Glasgow on 15 February 2020.
