DUOL – Wine pattern with high requirements

The event began with a brunch at the Sűrű winery, which was followed by the opening ceremony: Mayor Zsolt Horváth – himself an excellent wine expert – welcomed a large number of wine judges and interested parties gathered from the region.

Zoltán Szűcs, vice-president of the National Association of Hungarian Wine Orders, chairman of the competition, drew the attention of those involved to the high-level requirements, and Grandmaster István Dukai to the local peculiarities. Fafka Julcsi dazzled the audience with his selection of folk songs and László Széles’ show at the tárogató.

The officials of the judging committees were: Mihály Béleczki, grand master of the Kiskőrös Gondűző Wine Knight Order, Magdolna Font, head of the Soltvadkert wine laboratory, Tamás Frittmann, member of the Hungarian Wine Academy, Simon Cecília, chief winemaker of the Tűzkő vineyard estate, Attila Schmidt, grand master of the Adonyi Szent Orbán Wine Knight Order, Tomolik János, the leading winemaker of the region, producing leading quality.

The venue for the wine competition was provided by the following: wine knight János Sűrű, head cupbearer of the wine order István Tóth, wine order member Edit Wolner, in their own cellar next to the headquarters of the wine order.

At the competition, 219 wine samples received remarkable recognition. The best white wine of the settlements along the Danube: the riesling cuvé of Bözke winemaker János Tomolik. The best red wine of the settlements along the Danube: the cabernet sauvignon barrique of winemaker Tamás Adonyi. The best rosé wine of the settlements along the Danube: József Bajnok, a winemaker from Dunaföldvár, won the rosé cuvé.

The wine competition ended with a walk through the city center, evaluation and announcement of results in the castle restaurant, as well as eating the served lunch, in good company. The awards and recognitions will traditionally be presented in the square in front of the Szent Rókus chapel on May 1 at ten o’clock.
