Fan-made Remake of The Simpsons: Hit & Run in the Style of GTA III Completed
A duo of independent developers, Reubs and Korylon, have fulfilled the dreams of many video game and “The Simpsons” fans by creating a remake of the cult action game The Simpsons: Hit & Run in the style of GTA III. However, as they say, there is one catch.
Development of the fan-made remake began in 2022 using Unreal Engine 5 with the goal of recreating the original game on a new engine with an open world (meaning all locations are connected into one). After more than a year of work, the project by Reubs and Korylon is finally complete: the first significant portion of The Simpsons: Hit & Run on Unreal Engine 5 can now be played in its entirety, but not by regular players.
Copyright law requires that Reubs cannot distribute the remake without subjecting themselves to legal trouble from the rights holder of The Simpsons: Hit & Run (whoever that may be in 2023).
This means that those dreaming of playing the remake of The Simpsons: Hit & Run on Unreal Engine 5 will have to settle for Reubs’ published 26-minute gameplay video with a compilation of the playthrough.
There is also no hope for the continuation of work on the UE5 version of The Simpsons: Hit & Run. Reubs is shifting their focus to remaking another classic game with an open world, LEGO Island, released in 1997.
The Simpsons: Hit & Run was released in 2003 on PC, PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube. “The Simpsons” showrunner Matt Selman would like to see a remaster of the game, but it is hindered by the “corporate octopus.”

Fan-Made Remake of The Simpsons: Hit & Run in the Style of GTA III Unveiled, but There’s a Catch
Prepare to feel a wave of nostalgia as two talented indie developers, Reubs and Korylon, have just unveiled a remarkable creation that combines the beloved cult classic The Simpsons: Hit & Run with the iconic open-world style of GTA III. However, there’s a bittersweet twist to this exciting news.
Beginning their ambitious venture in 2022, using the powerful Unreal Engine 5, Reubs and Korylon set out to recreate the original game in a whole new light. Their vision was to transform The Simpsons: Hit & Run into a seamless open world where all locations intertwine, elevating the gaming experience to thrilling new heights. And after more than a year of relentless dedication, their project is finally complete.
But alas, here’s where the catch comes into play. Due to copyright laws, Reubs is unable to distribute their remake without inviting potential legal repercussions from the rights holders of The Simpsons: Hit & Run. It’s an unfortunate obstacle that prevents eager fans from diving into this exciting reimagination.
However, all hope is not lost. Reubs has shared a captivating 26-minute gameplay video, offering a tantalizing glimpse into the world they’ve created. While it may not provide the full immersive experience, it still allows fans to indulge in the nostalgia and appreciate the exceptional work put into this project.
As for the future, there will be no further development on the Unreal Engine 5 version of The Simpsons: Hit & Run. Reubs has decided to shift their focus to the remake of another classic gem, LEGO Island, which was originally released in 1997. With their talent and passion, it’s safe to say that this upcoming project will be equally as captivating.
Back in 2003, The Simpsons: Hit & Run captured the hearts of gamers on PC, PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube. Despite the desire for a remaster, ”The Simpsons” showrunner Matt Selman faces difficulties due to the ever-present “corporate octopus” obstacle. Nevertheless, fans continue to hold out hope for a revival of this beloved game.
So, as we await the possibilities that lie ahead, let’s revel in the passion and creativity that Reubs and Korylon have brought to the table. Their fan-made remake may not be widely accessible, but it stands as a testament to the enduring love for these iconic games and shows.
