Dunkirk hospital opens beds and transfers patients to avoid saturation

The Dunkirk hospital center continues to transfer patients to relieve congestion in its hospital beds. This Friday, March 5, three new resuscitation beds were opened.

Hospital transfers patients and opens beds

14 patients with Covid-19 are currently hospitalized in intensive care at the Dunkirk hospital center. Additional resuscitation beds are opened to increase capacity.

To avoid being saturated, Dunkirk hospital transfers patients who can be to other establishments. There have been 87 since the beginning of February. This week, for the first time, two were sent to a hospital outside the region, in Le Havre.

Patients younger than during the first waves

At the hospital, caregivers note that patients arrive younger. “On average, the patients are 62 years old. This is lower than the age of patients treated in the first and second wave who was 65 to 66 years old “, explains Justine Leibig, interim director of the Dunkirk hospital center.

Caregivers still see many hotbeds of contamination at family gatherings, where the two oldest generations arrive at the hospital. They therefore call on the population to be even more vigilant, and to respect the measures put in place.
