Dung Beetle’s Use of Dung Balls as Food and Egg-Laying Source | Tongue Shoots Out with Enormous Force: Animal Kingdom’s Power Ranking

Once the dung beetle has carried its heavy load to safety, it buries the dung balls and uses them as a source of food and to lay eggs.

Tongue shoots out of the mouth with enormous force

The animal kingdom is teeming with species that use an almost supernatural power to push, lift, drag, jump, bite or make quick movements.

For example, the saltwater crocodile from Southeast Asia and Northern Australia has the most powerful bite in the world, measured at 16,414 newtons. We bite with only 300 newtons.

And according to it Guinness Book of Records the salamander Bolitoglossa dofleini is the strongest vertebrate – an animal with a backbone.

When the salamander’s tongue pops out of its mouth, it generates a force of about 18,000 watts per kilogram of muscle. In comparison: top professional cyclists produce a maximum of 20 to 22 watts per kilo in a sprint.
