Tough times for Marvel and the competition: possibly the best film of the year is coming to cinemas soon.
The cinema year 2024 is heading towards its first peak. The Oscars aren’t just the industry’s biggest award show. In addition to the rumors surrounding the Academy Awards, this year’s blockbusters are already causing a stir in the media.
The new Planet of the Apes, for example, was brought forward specifically to avoid competition with a certain sci-fi flick. According to current forecasts at least, it could be the first big hit of the year at the box office. Given the name, this might not be too surprising.
The sequel to a great classic
Am February 29th Dune: Part 2 is launching in Germany. Once again, Hollywood stars like Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya and Dave Bautista can be seen in the comeback of the cult classic. The first film with Denis Villeneuve in the director’s chair was a complete success. But considering that the film was released in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, higher predictions for part 2 are hardly surprising.

Deadline is currently reporting the first estimates for the film’s release. For the first weekend, conservative estimates are approx $65 million Box office revenue in the American market. Forbes, meanwhile, emphasizes more generous forecasts in the range of $80 million.
For comparison: Oppenheimer grossed around $82 million in its first weekend in the United States. Projections for the Nolan project were $40 million to $50 million, according to Forbes.
In any case, the stars are not too bad for the sequel. Whether you can ultimately live up to the hype in terms of quality is of course another matter. However, the fan base no longer has to wait particularly long to be able to answer this very question.
