Dumoulin drops from top ten rankings, Pogacar takes time back on competition

Pogacar made the best impression of everyone uphill. A second gear on the final climb to shake off his remaining rivals initially yielded nothing, but a third did. On Friday, the Trek rider lost one minute and twenty seconds by not paying attention when fans pulled the pack apart, now he was attentive.

At the finish in Loudenvielle, Pogacar took 40 seconds back on the other favorites for the overall victory. The Slovenian rises from sixteenth to ninth place, 48 counts behind Yates.

Peters wins solo

Six minutes before Pogacar came in, the stage victory went to 26-year-old Frenchman Nans Peters, who was part of a large leading group that had been ahead all day and had fallen apart on the climbs.

Peters, already winner of a stage in the Giro last year, crossed the finish line solo. The Let Toms Skujins finished second on a count of 47.
