The Czech nuclear power plants reached the operational milestone of 30 terawatt-hours of electricity per year on December 23, eight days earlier than last year.
–
Since then, five of the six production units have remained in full operation. The second production unit in Dukovany is now shut down due to a planned fuel change associated with inspections and investments.
–
“Stable and reliable operation was key, as well as well-managed modernizations in recent years. Thanks to them, the output of our units has safely increased by approximately 500 megawatts since the start of operations, ie as if we were building another Dukovany unit, ”said Daniel Beneš, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of ČEZ.
–
CEZ does not communicate specific production goals of individual power plants. In 2017, the Nuclear Energy Division launched a program aimed at stable production of over 30 terawatt hours per year.
–
“Our top priority is safe and reliable operation, not record-setting, but I still see room for further improvement. We are aware of the importance of zero-emission and reliable electricity supply, ”said Bohdan Zronek, Member of the Board of Directors and Director of the Nuclear Energy Division.
–
“Therefore, in the new year, we will focus primarily on stable operation and good management of outages, which will not be easy with regard to protective measures against covidid and the scope of investments,” he added.
–
In total, Czech nuclear power plants are waiting for five outages for fuel change.
–
The second Dukovany unit is tentatively planned to connect the power plant to the grid during February, followed by the first production unit in the same month. Outages also include inspections and investments.
–
In 2020, all power plants in the Czech Republic supplied 81.4 TWh of energy to the transmission network, CEZ’s share in this volume was approximately 75 percent.
–
The share of coal has been declining for a long time and the production of zero-emission sources, such as hydro, photovoltaic, wind and nuclear power plants, is growing.
–
CEZ is the largest Czech energy company. Its majority shareholder is the state, which holds about 70 percent of the shares through the Ministry of Finance.
