Duisburg Mayor meets Philharmonic Director | MUSIC TODAY

Duisburg / Berlin (MH) – Duisburg’s Lord Mayor Sören Link (SPD) has met the new director of the Duisburg Philharmonic, Nils Szczepanski. At the meeting on Friday in the town hall, both spoke about the orchestra’s plans, projects and prospects, as the city announced. The current framework conditions in the concert hall under corona conditions were also an issue.

Szczepanski, born in Oldenburg in 1977, was elected as the new director of the Duisburg Philharmonic by the city council in February. The studied musicologist and cultural manager succeeded Alfred Wendel on August 1st, who retired the day before.

Szczepanski previously worked for the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra as artistic operations manager and personal assistant to the artistic director. From 2007 to 2013 he was engaged as a music theater, ballet and concert dramaturge at the Aalto-Musiktheater Essen.
