Residents of the Duindorp district in The Hague get little or no water from the tap on Thursday morning. According to water company Dunea, this is due to the “illegal opening of fire hydrants”.
Several fire hydrants were opened in the district last night. This has caused a pump to stop and the water pressure in the area to drop.
Dunea and other water companies have already warned about these kinds of incidents in recent days. Mechanics are working hard to restore the pressure. Dunea hopes this has happened around 1 pm.
Because the water pressure is divided into compartments, the problems are limited to Duindorp. About six thousand people live here.
Residents of Duindorp can currently experience reduced or no water pressure. Unfortunately, this is the result of the illegal opening of fire hydrants. Our colleagues are doing everything they can to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. It is expected to be resolved around noon.

Dunea puts preventive locks on fire hydrants in The Hague
In recent days, fire hydrants have been opened in several places in The Hague because local residents were looking to cool down. Dunea, the police and the municipality emphasize that this is illegal and that this type of vandalism causes serious nuisance. Police have arrested two 17-year-old boys.
Dunea has announced that it will lock all open fire hydrants as a preventive measure. “People can no longer open the fire hydrant,” explains a spokesman. “But if the fire brigade has to come out, this means an extra action. That valuable time can make a big difference in a fire.”
For this reason, the water manager is only setting the locks reactively to taps that have already been opened.
Municipality of The Hague ‘prepares’ after riots
The mobile unit had to turn out in the night from Wednesday to Thursday in the Schilderswijk in The Hague because a group of 100 to 150 people caused unrest in the street. Four people have been arrested. The turmoil started when young people opened fire hydrants and pelted the police and fire brigade with eggs, fireworks and stones.
The municipality of The Hague and the police have announced that they are discussing “the necessary preparations” to prevent such incidents in the coming nights.
