Aachen / Langerwehe: On Friday morning, the federal police attempted to stop a vehicle with two passengers at the Aachen-Laurensberg exit. At first, the driver made preparations to follow the police motorcyclist’s instructions, but as the stopping process continued, the motorcyclist was braked and the driver of the vehicle continued driving at excessive speed.

He drove at very high speed over the Aachen junction in the direction of Düren. Other patrol crews were notified and began to pursue the target vehicle.

During the first attempt to stop the vehicle, the federal police motorcyclist received information from the control center that the license plate had been stolen. The highway police in Broichweiden were informed of the incident and sent additional patrols to assist.

The target vehicle reached speeds of up to 190 km/h. After enough patrol cars were brought to the scene, the target vehicle was stopped shortly before the Langerwehe junction and the occupants were temporarily arrested.

As soon as the arrest was made, motorway police vehicles arrived to support the federal police with cordon measures and follow-up measures. As small amounts of cannabis were found during the search of the vehicle and a strong smell of cannabis was detectable, the state police deployed a drug-sniffing dog. However, this dog was unable to find any more narcotics.

The driver of the vehicle was reported on suspicion of participating in an illegal motor vehicle race, theft, violation of the Cannabis Consumption Act, misuse of license plates, driving without a license and the Compulsory Insurance Act.

For reasons of jurisdiction, the 20-year-old German driver and his 23-year-old German passenger were handed over to the highway police for further investigation and a blood sample from the driver. The vehicle was towed in and secured.
