Due to the Rail Baltica railway project, Rigans will have to reckon with inconveniences

It is a little less than a month until the start of construction works of the Central Railway Station of the railway line “Rail Baltica”, which is why Rigans will have to take into account inconveniences as well, reports TV3 Ziņas.

The cost of connecting the Baltic States to Central Europe by rail, or Rail Baltica, known as the project of the century, is currently estimated at around six billion euros. The lion’s share of the court is expected to be funded by the European Union. The most ambitious work in this project will be the reconstruction of the Riga Central Railway Station, and it is expected that the first works will start in about a month.

In preparation for the construction of Rail Baltica, today in a symbolic place – between the Ministry of Transport and the Central Railway Station – what the construction fence will look like is shown. It will also be informative with various data and facts about the project, as well as holes will be placed on the fence so that people who are interested can see how the construction work itself is going.

The relevant boxes or holes will be of different heights, but basically the interest is expected from the children. This is where the very first works will begin – the transfer of utilities, the construction of a new transformer station, as well as preparations for the platforms. This means that homeless people who love this square will also have to find a new gathering place.

In general, construction works at this stage will be from Maskavas to Lāčplēša Street, but the work will not take place everywhere at the same time. The largest part will start in the second quarter of next year – in Lāčplēša Street area. If necessary, the number of lanes for the street will be reduced during construction works. The works that require the complete closure of Lāčplēša Street are planned at night.

“This is definitely a very complex construction project, given, firstly, the large scale and, secondly, where this project is located. We are in the very center of Riga, ”said Guntis Āboltiņš-Āboliņš, a representative of the builders BeReRIX, Chairman of the Board of Rere Grupp.

During the construction works, the station and bus station will continue to operate fully. It will be possible for pedestrians and passengers to move around, as well as to continue working for visitors to commercial premises.

It is expected that by 2023 the embankment will be completely demolished, the railway overpass and the third floor of the station will be built, the street areas and platforms will be completely rebuilt.

The official launch shot for the construction of the Rail Baltica Central Railway Station is scheduled for November 17 with the solemn laying of the capsule.
