Kuala Lumpur –
Two senior diplomats Malaysia from United Arab Emirates (UAE) was recalled for failing to coordinate administrative and logistical affairs when the Prime Minister (PM) Ismail Sabri Yaakob visited the UAE last month. Due to this failure, PM Ismail had to wait a long time at the arrival terminal of the UAE airport.
As reported The StarTuesday (12/4/2022), Wisma Putra or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia announced this week that the two senior diplomats who were recalled consisted of the Malaysian Ambassador to the UAE and the Malaysian Consul General in Dubai.
The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the two had failed to carry out their duties in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) for high-ranking officials on working visits abroad, particularly the arrival of PM Ismail in Dubai on 29 March.
“This failure caused the Prime Minister to have to wait a long time at the normal arrival terminal for passport and immigration checks,” Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
“Also, there is no security such as a motorcade that should be provided for the Prime Minister,” he added.
It was also mentioned by the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that it was common practice for heads of Malaysian diplomatic missions overseas to provide security and escort for a Malaysian PM during state visits.
The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave an example of the treatment given to PM Ismail while attending the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in New York, United States (US), even though the host country did not provide ‘guest status’. The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it was the head of the Malaysian diplomatic mission in New York who provided security and the convoy according to the SOP.
“Two diplomats also failed to inform the Ministry of the World Government Summit (WGS), which was held during the Dubai Expo. Wisma Putra only learned about the summit on March 30 through different sources,” Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
