Due to the lack of semiconductors, it is not clear about car deliveries in Latvia as well

The global shortage of semiconductors or chips, which began in the spring of this year, continues to affect the automotive industry, as a result of which dealers are unable to predict the delivery times of cars, the association informs “Car Association“.

Chips are used in new vehicles, including infotainment systems, power steering, brakes and other vehicle systems.

“Uncertainty about the pace and delivery of new cars, which has been going on since the spring, continues. In addition, there is currently no one in the world who can say a specific date when this uncertainty will end, and semiconductor manufacturers will be able to supply car manufacturers with much-needed chips. Meanwhile, car dealers, including in Latvia, cannot please new car buyers with information about car delivery times, which, of course, has a negative effect on purchase decisions, ”says Andris Kulbergs, the head of the association.

The shortage of semiconductor chips in the global automotive industry in 2021 is expected to mean 110 billion ASV dollars of unearned revenue, the consulting firm AlixPartners reported. These estimates cover the entire supply chain, from dealers and car manufacturers to larger and smaller suppliers. In February 2021, the estimated loss was estimated at $ 60 billion, primarily due to the impact of Covid-19 – increasing sales of electrical equipment, including cars. However, supplies are currently affected by a number of other adverse factors, including a fire at one of the semiconductor suppliers’ plants near Tokyo, and weather problems in the automotive supply chain.

“At the moment, buyers of new cars can only be advised to be rational, communicate with the dealer of the chosen car and maintain patience. First, evaluate the warehouse offer of the selected car dealer – for cars that have been manufactured before and are available immediately. It means giving in to the individualization of the car, but the benefit is the car you can get into today. Secondly, to rationally evaluate the recommendations of car dealers about the importance of assembly, because in the case of individual manufacturers and models, the need to use a semiconductor can be avoided. Of course, this should be considered from the point of view of the needs of the car user, but this is the smartest way for those who want to receive a vehicle in the foreseeable future. In turn, for all those who are not in a hurry, I urge you to keep your peace and patience until the semiconductor crisis in the world is resolved and manufacturers are able to sell car orders at previous speeds, ”adds Kulbergs.

It has already been reported that, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, global demand for semiconductors or chips has significantly exceeded supply, leading to a deficit that is having a negative impact on the industry. Chips or semiconductors ensure the operation of not only cars, smartphones and computers, but also other electrical and household appliances.
