Due to the lack of chips, Volkswagen already sells one model without infotainment

The Brazilian branch of Volkswagen has decided to address the shortage of chips in a rather unusual way.

The shortage of semiconductors is currently plaguing the automotive industry around the world – and each automaker is responding to the crisis a little differently. While some brands have stopped production of selected models, others store unfinished cars in parking lots or deliver them to customers with trimmed equipment.

For example, Peugeot has limited the supply of cars with a digital instrument panel, which has been replaced by classic analog alarm clocks. GM then supplies some pick-ups and SUVs with V8 engines without a stop-start system, which compensates customers with a discount due to slightly higher consumption. And Volkswagen started delivering one model completely without infotainment.
