The Brazilian branch of Volkswagen has decided to address the shortage of chips in a rather unusual way.

The shortage of semiconductors is currently plaguing the automotive industry around the world – and each automaker is responding to the crisis a little differently. While some brands have stopped production of selected models, others store unfinished cars in parking lots or deliver them to customers with trimmed equipment.
For example, Peugeot has limited the supply of cars with a digital instrument panel, which has been replaced by classic analog alarm clocks. GM then supplies some pick-ups and SUVs with V8 engines without a stop-start system, which compensates customers with a discount due to slightly higher consumption. And Volkswagen started delivering one model completely without infotainment.

We are talking about the Brazilian branch of Volkswagen, which started offering the Fox model on the local market simply without infotainment, as colleagues from Motor1 reported. After all, you can also find pictures of a cut model with a plastic filling in the holes of the dashboard in the gallery.
At the same time, the carmaker allegedly does not even offer the possibility to pay extra for some infotainment, because semiconductors are simply missing. However, it should be mentioned that the Fox model is not one of the most important models in the local menu. What’s more, it should be completely over the market in a few months.

This is a fairly old car, which is one of the last to still stand on the PQ24 concern platform, on which, for example, the first-generation Škoda Fabia or Audi A2 was built. It is now even known that the position of the VW Fox on the Brazilian market will be occupied by the Voyage sedan. And perhaps when entering the market, it will offer infotainment again.
The good news for local customers is at least a more favorable price, which fell slightly in the absence of a 6.5-inch infotainment. In addition, customers can pay for another multimedia system directly from the dealer – ie from his range of accessories. The whole installation should be a breeze, as the car is still equipped with complete cabling and speakers.
