Due to the public transport strikes, many more people used public transport bicycles and shared scooters. For example, the NS saw an increase of 22 percent in the use of public transport bicycles compared to the previous week.
“It is possible that more factors play a role in the increase,” says an NS spokesperson. “But the strikes certainly also play a role. If we compare with the same days as one and two weeks ago, we see an average increase of 22 percent in the number of bicycles used.” Monday saw the largest increase.
Check shared scooters were also more popular. A spokesperson saw an increase in the number of users this week. “It is difficult to attribute it entirely to the strikes, but it is undoubtedly related to it.”
Scooter sharing company Felyx says that the regional strikes were indeed an excellent opportunity for travelers to use one of these means of transport. “There are probably more users, but more time is needed to be able to say something about that,” the organization reports.
In addition to the bicycles and scooters, there were also more cars on the road. According to the ANWB, for example, there was at least 880 kilometers of traffic jam on Tuesday evening. That was the busiest evening rush hour this year.
