Dirk Kuijt is not currently busy with a future head coach at Feyenoord. Dick Advocaat’s intended successor is going to separate from his wife Gertrude and therefore wants to have all the time for his private situation.
At the end of last month, Kuijts agent Rob Janssen confirmed that Kuijt is open to the head coach of Feyenoord in 2021. De Katwijker, who last season managed Feyenoord under 19, must then succeed Dick Advocaat.
It was thought to let the 39-year-old Kuijt make the move to Feyenoord under 21 next season, but due to the divorce he waived it. The former Orange international prefers the shelter, he says in an extensive interview with De Telegraaf. Still, the head coach at Feyenoord remains his goal.
“But when that is, it is not important at all now. Lawyer is a trainer of Feyenoord and he gets plenty of room to do his thing. He will continue again next year, very good. Dick is the best thing that could happen to Feyenoord. He has turned a very difficult situation into a great one.
‘Need to develop myself further’
According to Kuijt, it has never been an issue that he would become an assistant trainer with the main force next season. “Dick didn’t want that and I didn’t want to. Dick does his own thing with his own staff. We both do what’s best for Feyenoord. And I have to develop myself further. ”
Feyenoord is still looking for an assistant coach for next season, because Said Bakkati leaves for FC Cincinatti, where Jaap Stam is the head coach. John de Wolf and Cor Pot will stay in De Kuip.
The intention is that De Wolf, who has a continuous contract, will also remain an assistant if Kuijt becomes head coach in 2021. Alfons Groenendijk and Henrik Larsson should then complete the staff.
