Due to ‘nearshoring’, they will open new air routes between Mexico and the US

Acapulco, Gro. The phenomenon of company relocation has benefited not only the industrial or export sector, but also the aeronautical sector. The growth in flight demand has prompted Aeroméxico to seek to open more than 10 new routes between Mexico and the United States in the next six months, company executives announced.

With a market practically normalized after the pandemic and the fleet of aircraft ready to start engines, the company seeks to increase its presence among the destinations that workers and businessmen travel the most to be part of the nearshoring.

“Mexico has become the number one trading partner of the United States for the first time in many years and, in this context, we seek the opening in the first six months of the year of 14 new routes and a 30 percent growth in our operations. together with Delta Airlines,” said Giancarlo Mulinelli, senior vice president of Global Sales at Aeroméxico.

Last year alone, he stated, passenger flow increased 14 percent compared to the previous year and operational traffic six percent.

“We started 2024 very well, we continue to see strong demand. We have already returned to each of the routes that we operated before the pandemic,” he said.

The conference was held during the Tianguis Turístico in Acapulco, Guerrero, an event framed by the color and joy of the exhibitors, who are looking for a way to do business and attract as many tour operators as possible to their service centers.

The influx of visitors to the event on this second day of activities, to which people must register to access, is lower compared to yesterday. A guard at the main gate of Mundo Imperial (headquarters of the Tianguis) carries a counter, which marks the entry of just over 3,500 people this Thursday, yesterday around 5,000 arrived, he comments in a brief interview.

The main officials, such as Miguel Torruco, head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), cannot give statements due to the electoral ban.

Artisans and dancers, as well as entertainers from some states or private companies walk in the exhibition center and steal smiles, while in the awards ceremonies that take place the cry “Long live Acapulco!” stands out, with which they try to leave behind the devastating hurricane passage Otis in the port at the end of October last year.
