Due to “expired appointments” in CNVE, the Government considers the mandatory vaccine against COVID-19 to be “ended”

The Presidency of the Republic and the Ministry of Health announced, at the press conference after the Governing Council on Wednesdaywhat Due to a series of “expired appointments” in the National Commission for Vaccination and Epidemiology (CNVE), the mandatory COVID-19 vaccination is considered “ended” in the country.

The measure is taken as an order of the Executive Power because the CNVE decided to maintain the mandatory nature of immunization last maydespite the fact that the Presidency pressed for that path from day one of his mandate.

Thus the things this Wednesday the president Rodrigo Chavez Robles and the Health Minister, Joselyn Chacon Madrigal they pointed out that the period of operation of the Commission “had already expired” at the time of making these decisions and that for that your technical decision is null.

As Chávez noted:

The Commission, which likes unusual things in the country, has two members with expired appointment: a representative of the Fund and another of the Costa Rican Association of Pediatrics, Mr. Marvin Piva, whose appointment ended in 2020 and Mr. Oscar Porras Madrigal who has not had an appointment since the beginning of this year. They remained silent, they did not say that their appointment had expired. Then These people have been meeting illegally since 2020 and all their acts are invalid according to Costa Rican law. That is why I have asked the Minister of Health, given the illegality of the acts taken by the CNVE, suspend compulsory vaccination but maintain the availability of vaccines for those who, in the exercise of their freedom, are willing to be vaccinated”.

Chaves pointed out that the objective is to respect “the freedom of choice” of each citizen to get vaccinated or not. For this reason, and through a press release, Zapote indicated that:

This commission decided to maintain the mandatory vaccine being part of a list of countries made up of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Micronesia, Greece, Italy, Ecuador and the Vatican. Given this, the Government has analyzed the refusal of the Vaccination Commission to put Costa Rica on the list of countries that respect individual freedom in accordance with what was said by the World Health Organization (WHO) and that is how it was found that the Commission was meeting with the expired appointment of the representatives of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) and the Costa Rican Association of Pediatrics”.

In addition, Chaves indicated that:

I have been vaccinated and I tell people: get vaccinated. But if you don’t want to, and I said it in the campaign, in Costa Rica people are not cattle where vaccines are given by force.”

Finally, the president pointed out that those “illegal actions” of the CNVE include the massive purchase of vaccines against the pandemic disease and therefore asked Health to investigate everything related to the subject:

I have asked the Minister of Health to investigate the massive purchases of vaccines against COVID-19 that were authorized through the commission given that there is a significant amount of vaccines and resources invested that could be lost since the vaccines that we inherited They have an expiration date very soon.
