Postponed or canceled, the result is the same. For the fourth time in a row, the organizers of the New York show have decided to postpone the event because of the Covid-19 epidemic. A new date must be set for April 2022.
Initially, the New York auto show was to be held at the end of August, from 20 to 29. A few days before the Munich show which opens its doors on September 6. This has not yet been compromised, despite the resurgence of contamination linked to the Delta variant of the Covid-19 coronavirus. It is therefore the fourth postponement of the North American show, which will therefore take place next April if all goes well …
The event was to mark a semblance of a return to business for auto shows across the Atlantic. Since the first cancellation of the New York show in April 2020 and its successive postponements, no such gathering could be held on the continent because of health restrictions.
No better in Europe, where Munich (which will now replace Frankfurt) will be the very first motor show since the cancellation of Geneva in March 2020, at the start of the global Covid-19 pandemic. Paradoxically, China has already reopened the ball of automotive high masses last April, with a show in Shanghai bringing together nearly 1,000 exhibitors and almost normal attendance, as if nothing had happened.
