“For sanitation reasons” and after reporting at least seven cases of coronavirus, the Consulate of Mexico in New York has been closed this week and will continue until at least tomorrow, Friday.
They’ve only been attending strict emergencies, coordinated through the telephones (212) 2176409 and (917) 4592143. The rest of the people “with a confirmed appointment” would be contacted to reschedule their process as soon as possible, the Consulate’s Twitter account.
The Mexican consul in New York, Jorge Islas, confirmed that the closure is due to the fact that all employees were quarantined. The suspension includes so-called “on wheels” services or mobile consulates in New Brunswick and Passaic (New Jersey) and Connecticut (Fairfield).
The only activity that has not been suspended at the Consulate located in Manhattan (27 East 39th St) is the vaccination “of eligible Mexicans”, with service in Spanish and indigenous languages, reported NY1 News.
