Due to an increase in cases, the COVID hospital reopens in Baja California Sur – El Financiero

After months of close temporary hospitalization spaces as the pandemic subsided, Mexico announced on Friday that it will reopen two temporary pavilions to deal with a spike in COVID-19 cases.

The Mexican Social Security Institute indicated that two pavilions of 30 and 40 beds will be opened in covered areas in hospital parking lots in the state of Baja California Sur, in the northwest of the country.

Like the state of Quintana Roo on the Caribbean coast, Baja California Sur relies heavily on tourism, and the two states have seen increases in the number of cases.

At the national level, coronavirus cases have increased 14 percent compared to last week, after months of declining.

Hospital occupancy nationwide remains at approximately 17 percent capacity, but in some states it has risen to worrying levels.

Mexico has registered more than 232,300 deaths from COVID-19 confirmed with diagnostic tests, but the government’s own calculations place the real figure at around 360,000,000.

So far the country has received 51 million 700 thousand doses of vaccines against the coronavirus and has applied 42 million 800 thousand doses.
