Duda and Chaskowski will compete in the second round of the Polish presidential election

In the second round of the Polish presidential election, the current head of state Andrzej Duda and the mayor of Warsaw Rafal Chaskowski will compete next month, according to the preliminary results of the first round, published on Monday, obtained by counting ballots in 87% of polling stations.

According to these results, Duda, supported by the ruling National Conservative Party “Law and Justice”, received 45.24% of the vote in the first round on Sunday, while Chaskovsky won 29.92% of the vote from the opposition Liberal Liberal Party.

Third place went to independent candidate Shimon Holovney, who received 13.69% of the vote.

The other eight candidates received less than 10% of the vote each.

Voter turnout in the first round was 53.3%.

The second round will take place on July 12. Opinion polls show that Duda and Chaskovsky have a similar chance of winning.

The term of office of the President of Poland is five years.

30 million Polish citizens have the right to vote.
