Culture
Florian Satzinger’s passion for duck drawings is reflected in his pictures: “Duckland” is the name of the cycle that can now be seen in the casemates of Graz’s Schloßberg.

In the casemates, the duck stories full of legends and knights are told on 14 displays. Inspired by Carl Spitzweg’s picture “Bookworm”, Florian Satzinger shows the who’s who of Styrian past and present, from photographer Inge Morath to rocket researcher Friedrich Schmiedl to Erwin Wurm’s “Fat Car”.
It should not be a caricature of the people, according to the Graz designer: “It was a rich source of inspiration and reference from which such worlds of figures can be wonderfully created, almost as if by themselves.”

Museum instead of concert stage
The ducks in the style of the hand-drawn cartoon can be seen on large banners throughout the room. The stage, on which concerts and performances of all kinds normally take place, has been orphaned since the summer – now it is to be temporarily revived, at least as an exhibition space. “As the first event location in Austria, the Graz venues are realizing an alternative format to make culture in times of Corona tangible for people. If no concerts can take place, we declare the Schloßbergbühne Kasematten to be a museum ”, says the venue’s managing director Bernhard Rinner.
