The festival in honor of the organist, composer and pedagogue Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562-1621) is a focus of this year’s annual program of the Dübendorfer Abendmusiken. As “Orpheus of Amsterdam” he was an international celebrity and attracted an illustrious group of students who spread his music across Europe. In the opening concert, the internationally renowned organist Léon Berben will present the organ music of Sweelinck and that of his students. Léon Berben has specialized in the music of this era and has received various awards and prizes (including the German Record Critics’ Prize) for his complete recording of Sweelinck’s works for keyboard instruments.
