The Russian Defense Ministry (Kemhan) announced the decision on Saturday. This means that it is now waging all-out war in Ukraine.
“By a decision of the Defense Minister of the Russian Federation, Army General Sergey Surovikin was appointed commander of the joint forces in the area of special military operations,” the statement read.

The veteran general has served as commander of the Russian aerospace forces since 2017. In the same year he was awarded the title of Hero of Russia for his role in military operations in Syria.
Previously, he also took part in hostilities in Chechnya.
According to various media reports, Surovikin has been dubbed “General of Armageddon” by his colleagues, citing his uncompromising and unorthodox approach to military operations.
Surovikin took command of the joint forces of the “South” during Moscow’s military campaign in Ukraine.
In late June, the Russian Defense Ministry said its troops had eliminated the main Ukrainian force that had surrounded the Gorskoye area in the Luhansk People’s Republic.
