The Dubai Health Authority stated that it is working to establish a new mechanism to cover visitors with insurance, stressing that health insurance is mandatory for visitors, according to the law.
It also stressed the work to modernize and compulsory insurance products in general.
Saleh Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Dubai Health Insurance Corporation, told Emirates Today that the new mechanism, which targets visitors, includes treatment benefits that the visitor gets in emergency situations, and ensures that he enjoys high-quality insurance services throughout his stay in the country.
With regard to the prices of insurance packages in Dubai, Al Hashemi stated that the price of insurance packages starts from 525 dirhams, indicating that there is a basic package imposed by the authority, and a number of specially designed and improved packages, according to the products and needs in the insurance market in the emirate.
He explained that the coverage ceiling for the basic package is 150 thousand dirhams, but the improved packages are according to the needs of the beneficiaries, provided that they exceed 150 thousand dirhams, and the packages issued by insurance companies are not less than them.
Al Hashemi confirmed that the authority follows strict procedures to ensure compliance with the health insurance laws and procedures in the emirate, as it issues violations to employers and sponsors in the event that they do not include persons who are mandated to include them in health insurance.
Regarding the oversight mechanism implemented by the authority to ensure individuals and institutions adhere to health insurance laws and controls in the emirate, Al Hashemi stressed that “the authority works in cooperation with the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai to monitor violators and implement the law on a large scale.”
He added, “The authority seeks, through its affiliated Dubai Health Insurance Corporation, to create a health system that is efficient and transparent, by developing systems and setting regulations and procedures that serve the insurance system.
Al-Hashemi stressed that the care of patients and their access to the medical services they deserve in hospitals and centers of the government or private sector, requires the availability of the insurance coverage due, which is established by law, legislation and controls, especially the legal provisions that linked residence and insurance coverage.
It is worth noting that the authority recently called on various business establishments and companies to review their lists of workers and employees, in order to fulfill what is missing from the required insurance coverage, in order to avoid legal violations, in addition to ensuring that employees and workers in the emirate receive appropriate treatment services.
