Dubai Electricity and Water Authority announced that it had received 3,872 requests to connect electricity through the “moss” service during the first half of 2023, compared to 1,897 during the same period last year, an increase of more than 104%, at a time when the authority said that the large increase in the number of requests to connect electricity through the “mosquito” service confirms the strong performance of the various economic sectors in Dubai.
The “Al Namoos” service (a word spoken to the winner of the race in the Emirati dialect) allows electricity to be delivered to projects with loads of up to 150 kilowatts in two steps and within five days only.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, said: “The authority contributes to achieving the ambitious goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and aims to double the size of Dubai’s economy and make it one of the three largest economic cities in the world over the next 10 years.”
He added, “We provide all the necessary facilities for industrial, commercial and residential projects, and we provide smart services to speed up access to electricity and water services, according to the highest international standards and practices.”
Al Tayer said: “The significant increase in the number of requests to connect electricity through the Al Namoos service during the first half of the year confirms the strong performance of the various economic sectors in Dubai, which came in first place globally in attracting new foreign direct investment projects during 2022, for the second year in a row.”
For his part, Executive Vice President of the Energy Distribution Sector at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Engineer Rashid bin Humaidan, said, “The authority launched the (Al Namoos) service in 2014 for contractors and consultants within the package of facilities it provides for industrial, commercial and residential projects, as the service shortened the procedures for obtaining electricity for projects whose loads reach 150 kilowatts to only two steps within five days.”
He added, “The number of consultants and contractors approved by the authority reached 2,395 consultants and contractors as of June 30, 2023.”
It is noteworthy that DEWA allows consultants and contractors to conduct all their transactions at any time and from anywhere with ease through the smart application or the authority’s website (www.dewa.gov.ae).
