The ninth Sustainability Report 2021 released by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority revealed the authority’s progress and its major contributions to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, as well as its success in supporting sustainable recovery and continuing to implement its sustainability projects in 2021 despite the challenges related to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic The authority has prepared the report in accordance with the Global Reporting Standards Initiative (GRI), as it highlights the authority’s commitment towards the ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact, among which human rights, labour, the environment and the fight against corruption stand out. The report is also consistent with the information provided by the service institutions in the electricity sector to the initiative. Global Reporting (G4).
His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, drew attention to the work to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Carbon Neutrality initiative to provide 100% generation capacity of energy from clean energy sources by 2050, through the implementation of world-leading projects. In particular, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar power complex in the world according to the model of the independent energy producer. DEWA’s efforts have also helped reduce carbon emissions in Dubai by 21% in 2021, exceeding the target rate of the Dubai Carbon Reduction Strategy 2021, which aims to reduce emissions by 16% by 2021.
The report comprises 9 chapters, especially on climate change, sustainable development, water, energy, employees, customers, environment, society and others and is available in both Arabic and English on the website authority (www.dewa.gov.ae). .
Interestingly, DEWA has been publishing its annual sustainability report since 2013 and has established its position in this field by joining the Global Reporting Initiative golden community as well as the “Standards Pioneers” program launched by the initiative and includes 100 institutions organizations that immediately adopted the new global standards.Prepare the sustainability reports, starting with the Authority’s fourth sustainability report for the year 2016.
