Dubai Customs has confirmed its commitment to developing its technological capabilities, through projects based on artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies, to continue assisting customs operations, increasing security at border crossings, keeping up with the steady increase in Dubai’s foreign trade, and finding solutions to emerging challenges.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the GITEX Global 2024 exhibition, His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Bu Sinnad, Director General of Dubai Customs, emphasized the constant commitment to digital innovation and the adoption of artificial intelligence solutions up-to-date as enablers who will drive the future of practice in Dubai.

He highlighted the department’s new projects and future plans in the field of digital transformation.

His Excellency reviewed Dubai Customs’ latest innovative projects that rely on artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies, which he will share with the GITEX audience.

He explained that among the projects presented was the “Integrated Inspection” project, which allows customers to carry out a customs inspection of their commercial cargo in their own places and at times convenient for them, in addition on the “Coordinator Application”, which. developed using artificial intelligence techniques, to identify system codes (HS code) of the product.

Bu Sinad said that Dubai Customs was keen to provide visitors to the exhibition with a virtual experience, allowing them to experience the customer’s journey in clearing cargo, and to learn about the advanced tools used in the study of habits.

He pointed out that the department presented the “Okta” project, which relies on artificial intelligence, to answer customers’ questions related to customs and trade in Dubai.

In the context of innovation, Dr. Bou Sinnad unveiled the “Shahreen” project, which allows dangerous shipments to be electronically tracked, as well as the “warehouse platform,” which allows by warehouse owners to list their spaces for rent, and enable tenants. book them and pay securely through blockchain technology.

He highlighted the “smart program for training inspectors,” which uses artificial intelligence to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of customs inspectors.

He spoke about the importance of technological development in improving the efficiency of customs operations, noting that Dubai Customs, through advanced digital solutions, was able to complete more than 30.4 million transactions in 2023.

He emphasized the important role of these technologies in supporting the growing growth of Dubai’s foreign trade, as the value of non-oil trade reached 2.1 trillion dirhams last year.

As part of the ongoing efforts to increase customs security, he explained that Dubai Customs has developed advanced cargo inspection systems such as The Time to ensure the safety of border crossings in Dubai.

Regarding the challenges facing the sector in adopting digital and technological solutions, he said that Dubai Customs is working to keep up with rapid developments in this area, by following the artificial intelligence technologies and latest blockchain.

He confirmed that the aim is to maintain Dubai’s global leadership in the use of technology, to increase the efficiency of customs work and to protect border crossings from smuggling operations.

He pointed out that Dubai Customs launched a cross-border e-commerce platform using Blockchain, to address the challenges arising from the rise in e-commerce, which focuses on in- trade and export for express shipping companies and reduce the required documents. increasing the efficiency of customs and facilitating procedures for returning goods.
