The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) announced the organization of the “Basics of School Theater” workshop with the aim of discovering student theatrical talents, training them and developing their skills in this field. The workshop, which is being held in cooperation with the Emirates Foundation for School Education, comes within the framework of the Authority’s preparations for the launch of the fourth edition. From the Dubai School Theater Festival, which will be held from 4 to 8 next March, with the participation of a wide range of Dubai schools.
The workshop, which is hosted by Al Warqa Educational Complex during the weekdays throughout February, targets all school students participating in the Dubai School Theater Festival 2024, as it gives them an overview of the beginnings of the art of theater and its development throughout history, and its most prominent pioneers, concepts, schools, and its various methods. Participants will learn about the capabilities of theater, its importance, and its role in conveying various societal messages, in addition to techniques for dealing with texts and the process of deconstructing them in preparation for transforming them into integrated and purposeful theatrical performances.
During the workshop, which is supervised by artist and director Mohammed Saeed Salti, the students will learn about ways to formulate the directorial vision for the show and how to choose the main elements in it at the level of acting, design, decoration, sound and musical effects, etc. The workshop also addresses the basics of acting on stage, how to deal with actors, enhance their abilities and benefit from… Including ensuring the presentation of an attention-grabbing theatrical performance, through a set of practical exercises that the students will receive to help them raise the level of their theatrical performance.
It is noteworthy that Dubai Culture seeks, through the Dubai School Theater Festival, to celebrate emerging talents and enable them to present their ideas in various forms, in addition to contributing to instilling educational and moral values in the hearts of students, and motivating Dubai schools and its educational and pedagogical institutions to benefit from the performing arts and employ them in transforming subjects. The methodology includes dramatic texts and visual scenes that help consolidate it in the minds of students. This comes out of the Authority’s commitments to invest in future generations and encourage them to innovate in the cultural and creative industries.
