Duane Davis, Suspect in Tupac Shakur’s Murder, Asks for House Arrest Pending Trial

CelebritiesDuane Davis, 60, a former Los Angeles mobster accused of killing Tupac Shakur in 1996, plans to ask a judge Tuesday to place him under house arrest pending trial in June. His lawyers say Davis is in poor health and poses no danger to the community.

Ever since the murder of hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas in 1996, a detailed investigation into the possible perpetrators has been underway. The prime suspect par excellence is Duana Davis, a notorious Los Angeles gang leader. Although his trial won’t take place until June and Davis will spend time behind bars until then, he will ask for house arrest next week. His lawyers just announced this to the ‘New York Post’:

“Davis is in poor health and is no longer a danger to the community. No, he will not flee to avoid the trial,” he said. The lawyers are also demanding that the judge set Davis’ bond at US$100,000.

Since his arrest on September 29, Davis has been in jail without bond. This means that he cannot be ‘redeemed’. Davis still pleads not guilty and would therefore ask the judge for house arrest to serve the period until the trial in June.

Murder of Tupac

Davis is accused of the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur. According to several testimonies, including that of his own son, Davis is alleged to have orchestrated the 1996 shooting in which Tupac became the victim.

One of Davis’ attorneys, Robert Arroyo, told The Associated Press that he saw no evidence that a witness had been named or threatened. His entire team also claims that the allegations are untrue and were made “purely for entertainment purposes and to make money.”

If convicted, Davis could spend the rest of his life in prison in Nevada.
