After Rast turned out to be unrivaled in the qualifying session, he seemed to be the favorite of the whole competition. Apart from winning the pole position, the German driver was also in a great form, which has been impressive for some time. The 33-year-old confirmed it at the start without any problems maintaining the first place. There were no changes behind his back, and Ferdinand Habsburg and Robin Frijns also retained their positions.

Kubica, on the other hand, was promoted, moving one place. Shortly after the competition began, a safety car appeared on the track, as there were many parts from Lucas Auer’s car on the track. Immediately after the end of the neutralization period, the Pole fell by two places – behind Nico Mueller and Sheldon van der Linde. As it turned out later, it was all thanks to the driver from South Africa, who hit the machine of the Cracovian during the resumption.

Shortly thereafter, an oil leak eliminated Mike Rockenfeller. Half an hour before the end of the competition, the leader was … Kubica. The Pole was at the top, because he was the only one who did not go to the pit at this stage of the competition. After the 35-year-old finally changed his tires, he returned to track 10. A moment later, however, our representative was overtaken by Lucas Auer and Marco Wittmann, pushing Kubica to twelfth place.

Unfortunately, shortly after that, the former Formula 1 driver had to show up again to the mechanics and then, due to technical problems, withdraw from the race. – Everything was fine, but before the pit stop I heard strange noises coming from my car. However, there were no alarms or indicators and the car drove well. After I left the garage, I realized the sound was like there was a problem with one cylinder. In this situation, we had to withdraw – commented the Pole hotly.

In the meantime, Rast and Frijns had a great fight. The Dutchman was right behind his rival, but he was unable to deal with him. In the following laps the leader was gradually running away and ten minutes before the end of the competition he had more than three and a half seconds of advantage. As it turned out, Rast did not give up the lead to the finish line and could enjoy an extremely valuable win, which allowed him to take the lead in the general classification of the 2020 season.

Frijns and Habsburg also made it to the podium, followed by Jonathan Aberdein, Fabio Scherer, Nico Mueller, Harrison Newey, Jamie Green, Timo Glock and Marco Wittmann, who closed the scoring ten.

The next edition of the 2020 season will take place on Sunday at the Zolder track.
