The Deggendorfer SC suffered the second defeat in a row on Tuesday evening in Rosenheim. After the Starbulls Rosenheim dominated the game over long stretches, the Deggendorfer only started their offensive engine in the final minutes and lost 6: 5 in the end.
The home side from Rosenheim got off to a better start to the game and got their first power play opportunity after just three minutes. But the Deggendorfer defended skillfully and did not allow a hit. The Starbulls, however, remained the better team in terms of play and earned a few good opportunities to shoot, but all of them were destroyed by Kristian Hufsky in the DSC goal. Towards the end of the third, Henry Thom’s team appeared a little more often in the Rosenheim defensive third, but without any significant success. With the 0-0 it went into the first break.
The Starbulls stayed on the trigger in the second section and were finally rewarded for it in the 28th minute. After a quick counterattack, Simon Heidenreich scored 1-0. The Starbulls now took a double strike. This time it was Höller who pushed the puck over the line in the margin. A short time later there was a power play for the DSC and this was turned into a follow-up hit. Tadas Kumeliauskas served Andrew Schembri, who was standing free at the far corner, and he maneuvered the puck over the line to make it 2-1. However, the own hit gave the DSC little boost. The home side stayed on the trigger and followed suit shortly before the break. Defender Maximilian Vollmayer escaped his opponent, was served in an exemplary manner and scored to make it 3-1. In general, the DSC remained far too harmless and timid in its attack efforts in the second third, so that there was too little danger for Andreas Mechel’s goal.
In the final section, the home side set the tone again and increased to 4: 1 in the 45th minute. The ex-Deggendorfer Kyle Gibbons shot in front of the goal Andreas Gawlik, from whose skate the puck went into his own goal. But as in the second third, the Deggendorfer had an answer in the power play. This time it was Manuel Wiederer who brought the puck sharply in front of the goal and again it was Andrew Schembri who brought the puck over the line. But instead of the hoped-for momentum, the Deggendorf connection hit brought the Starbulls on the scene, who even put the result to 6: 2 with hits from Höller (51st) and Vollmayer (54th). A few seconds after the 6: 2 David Seidl completed a great counterattack to 6: 3 and thus initiated a final offensive that was no longer thought possible. With a double in the 57th and 58th minutes, René Röthke brought the DSC back to 6: 5. But the late urge phase remained without reward, so that the team of coach Henry Thom after the away defeat in Regensburg also went empty-handed in the duel with the Starbulls.
On Friday, Deggendorf will travel to Landsberg for the next away game. The game starts at 8 p.m.
