The presence of a dry climate and the indiscriminate use of pyrotechnics are the main causes of the fires registered this season, the Nuevo León Fire Department warned.

The director of operations, Alejandro Zúñiga Alarcón, commented for MILLENNIUM Monterrey that during December 24 and 25, the 14 stations that are still active attended just over 60 aid services on a constant basis.

“It was a difficult day, a day in which the Fire Department practically did not stop all day,” he said.

During Good night and Christmas, the firefighters attended 48 fires in vacant lots, 13 in homes, three vehicles, among others.

Given the high number of accidents that occurred in vacant lots, he said that this is due to the fact that there is a very dry climate, similar to that of summer.

“Unfortunately, the meteorological conditions that we have right now in our region is practically an intense summer, where there is a lot of weeds that are dry and easily consumable and that is practically that a fire spreads”, he commented.

At the same time, Zúñiga Alarcón warned that another factor that generates the fires is the use of pyrotechnics, so he asked the population to refrain from it.

“We reiterate, although we are repetitive, not to use pyrotechnics. Let us avoid the use of pyrotechnics to avoid risk situations not only for those who manipulate it but also for third parties, since in many cases this is the root of the accidents ”, added the commander.

Unlike other years, Zúñiga Alarcón stated that specifically on December 24 and 25 there was a significant increase in fires, despite the fact that so far in 2020 the claims have decreased.

These actions are developed in conjunction with the various aid corporations of the entity.

In the event of an emergency, the population can dial the fire line 81 83 42 00 55 and 911.

192 State Civil Protection attends fires in vacant lots

In just two days, the State Civil Protection reported that they attended 192 reports of fire in vacant lots.

On December 24 alone, this corporation paid attention to 90 reports, while on December 25 until 6:00 p.m. another 100 more were counted.

Faced with this situation, Civil Protection asked the population not to burn garbage or light fires.
