The American car brand Jeep no longer broadcasts an advertisement with Bruce Springsteen. The automaker does not think that is appropriate now that the rock star has been fined for driving under the influence.
Springsteen appeared for the first time ever in an advertisement during halftime of the Superbowl last Sunday, with an argument against division. In his own Jeep, he drove to the center of the United States to light a candle for unity in the country in a chapel.
“It is no secret that the middle has recently been hard to find. Between red and blue, civil servant and citizen, freedom and fear. We need the middle,” said Springsteen.
Held
A few days later, gossip site TMZ revealed that Springsteen was arrested in the state of New Jersey in November for drunk driving, reckless driving and alcohol consumption on trespassing areas. He is said to have been in a closed recreational area.
The rock star’s spokespersons were not available for comment. According to the police, he cooperated in his arrest.
It is not clear whether Springsteen is facing a punishment. He should occur in the coming weeks, according to TMZ.
‘Not justifying’
Jeep writes that as long as the details of the case are not known, it does not respond appropriately, but in the meantime also calls it inappropriate to continue to run the advertising. The company therefore does not want to comment on the matter except for a brief statement.
“Our message about community and unity is just as relevant,” writes Jeep. “But that also applies to the message that drinking and driving should never be justified.”
