At about 3 a.m. on October 15, 2022, the police received a report that a middle-aged man had a dispute with others. The officers arrived at the scene after receiving the report. After preliminary investigation, the man surnamed Chen (52 years old) had a dispute with the male security guard surnamed Wu (48 years old) in Chi Fu Road No. 1 Building, Aberdeen. Chen also suspected that he had pushed Wu away with his hands. Chen was then arrested on suspicion of “common assault.” The security guard who was attacked was conscious and was sent to Queen Mary Hospital for treatment.
The arrested man, an off-duty police officer, has been suspended. The case was handed over to the District Crime Squad of the Western District Police for follow-up. After investigation and legal advice, the arrested man has been charged with 2 counts of “common assault” and 1 count of “drunkenness” as alternate charges. The case will be brought up in the Eastern District Magistrates’ Court this Friday (24th) morning .
Off-duty police officers have been involved in various crimes in the past. At about 2 pm on November 4, 2022, the security guard of “AEON” in Harborview Plaza, No. 88 Tai Ho Road, Tsuen Wan, reported to the police that a woman had suspected of stealing frozen meat worth HK$780 at the address. After the police arrived at the scene and investigated, the woman surnamed Wu (30 years old) was arrested on suspicion of “theft”. The arrested woman was an off-duty police officer and had been suspended. She was charged with one count on December 28 last year. Theft, the case was brought to court on January 6, 2023.
In addition, at about 2:30 am on October 15, 2022, someone reported that there was a dispute and a fight at the bus stop on Tuen Mun Rural Affairs Road near On Ting Estate. Officers arrived at the scene and believed that two men surnamed Ho (18 and 25 years old), two women surnamed Zhen (18 years old) and surnamed Zhang (28 years old) had a dispute with a man surnamed Li (29 years old) at the above address Afterwards, the 4 people and Li Nan suspected that they attacked each other with their hands. The police later arrested the former four on suspicion of “causing actual bodily harm as a result of an assault.” Li Nan was arrested on suspicion of “common assault”. He is an off-duty police officer and has been suspended. The three men were each charged with one count of “common assault” and the case was brought up in Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Courts on January 11, 2023.
