Düsseldorf A 23-year-old was out and about with her boyfriend in Düsseldorf’s old town early on Sunday morning. When they got back to their car drunk, the police were waiting for them.
A very drunk mother left her toddler alone in the car in the old town on Saturday night. The three-year-old girl hit the windows of the BMW parked on Neubrückstrasse and cried. Officers from the Central Police Inspectorate who were summoned then smashed a window in the car and freed the girl. The drunk mother and a companion appeared at the scene a short time later. The officials prepared a youth protection report.

At 3:15 a.m., several passers-by on Neubrückstrasse noticed the locked BMW with Dortmund license plates, in which a little girl was sitting, desperately trying to draw attention to herself. Since no one responsible was to be seen far and wide, the police officers who were called didn’t hesitate and smashed a window to free the crying girl. About half an hour later, the 23-year-old mother appeared at the scene with a companion, the driver. They had obviously visited the old town beforehand. A breath alcohol test by the legal guardian showed a value of almost two per thousand. Fortunately, the girl was unharmed.

Although it was already largely cold by this time on Saturday after the hot temperatures during the day, small children (and animals) in particular should never be left in a locked car. The interior can heat up by one degree per minute in direct sunlight – temperatures of more than 30 degrees are already prevailing, and values of up to 70 degrees are reached in a short time. Such values can lead to fainting or circulatory collapse and, in extreme cases, pose a danger to life. And in such a case, it cannot be assumed that the temperatures will drop back to normal within a few hours after dark.
