A 14-year-old boy is in serious condition in the intensive care unit of Stara Zagora hospital after being hit by a car on “Hristo Botev” street in Buzovgrad village. The serious crash occurred around 5:30 pm Friday evening, NOVA has learned.
The child, in danger of his life, was on the roadway on his bicycle when he was hit by a car.
The driver of the car fled but was later caught. He is 57 years old. The driver tested positive for alcohol and drugs: his blood sugar level was over 1.2 per mille.
According to BTA, the boy is in a coma and is intubated. The driver has been charged.
Testimony indicates that three village boys were hit by the vehicle, the other two were not seriously injured.
Parents and relatives of the three children are unable to recover from the shock.
“They were standing on the stall, on the side of the main road. The car passed at a breakneck speed and hit them. It all happened very fast. At the first moment the driver who hit the child ran away, they were left alone , they didn’t know what to do, they instinctively called 112”, says Valentina Uzunova, mother of one of the children.
The driver of the car fled to the nearby village where he lived. Subsequently, it became clear that he was driving with over 1.2% alcohol.
“He was found four hours later at his home. The car was parked under his house. It was impounded during the preliminary investigation and the driver was tested for alcohol and drug use. Both results are positive,” he said. said Tanya Dimitrova, district attorney of Kazanlak.
“It has been established that he used methamphetamines. He will be detained for up to 72 hours,” added Doicho Tsanev, supervisor of the prosecutor’s office.
In Buzovgrad, people claim that people constantly drive excessively fast.
“I would say that the whole village is in shock, even the surrounding area. And we hope that the child has a great chance, even if we don’t hear good news, but we are all praying for the child,” said Maya Berova, mayor of Buzovgrad.
The 57-year-old man who caused the crash has been arrested. He could be sentenced to up to 6 years in prison.
