Drummer Fred White (67) of Earth, Wind & Fire has died | Music

Earth, Wind & Fire drummer Fred White has died at the age of 67. His brother Verdine announced the news on Instagram. The cause of death has not been stated.

“Our family is deeply saddened by the passing of a wonderful and talented family member, our beloved brother Frederick Eugene ‘Freddie’ White,” Verdine wrote. “He IS with our brothers Maurice, Monte and Ronald in heaven and now plays with the angels.”

Verdine calls her brother “mean” and “always enthusiastic”. “We could always count on him to make a difficult situation easier.”

The band Earth, Wind & Fire was founded in 1970 and was particularly popular in the seventies and eighties. The men scored hits with songs like September, Fantasy in Boogie Wonderland.

Fred White joined the band in 1973 as drummer. At the time, his half-brothers Maurice and Verdine were also part of the band.
