The youngest billionaire in the world comes from Germany – but he is practically completely unknown to the public.
Karlsruhe – The youngest billionaire in the world comes from Germany. Kevin David Lehmann is just 18 years old, heir to the drugstore chain dm and, according to the Forbes ranking, richer than Donald Trump with a converted fortune of 2.8 billion euros. In contrast to the controversial economic mogul and former US president, Lehmann does not like to be the center of attention.
The super-rich dm heir inevitably gets attention with his entry into the illustrious Forbes list. Although Lehmann “only” ranks 925 there, the teenager suddenly became the youngest billionaire in the world when he came of age in September 2020 and replaced social media star and entrepreneur Kylie Jenner in this position. In contrast to his predecessor, Lehmann lives largely anonymously: no photos, no social media profiles, no public appearances.

Little is known about Kevin David Lehmann’s family. His father, Günther Lehmann, joined dm in 1974 as a partner. The drugstore chain had just opened its second store at the time. Today, with more than 60,000 employees and around 3,700 branches, dm is the market leader in Europe. Günther Lehmann was never actively involved in the company’s business. In 2017 he broadcast aloud Handelsblatt his DM shares in son Kevin David. He was 14 years old at the time. A trustee managed his assets until his 18th birthday.
Kevin David Lehmann is one of “only a handful of billionaires” who were able to integrate into the ranks of the super-rich as a teenager, reports Forbes. Lehmann is still not involved in operational business, it continues. Like his father, who is considered secretive, Kevin David Lehmann keeps a low profile even after his fortune becomes known.
dm-Erbe Kevin David Lehmann: From scratch to the top of the youngest super-rich
Forbes has been ranking the richest people in the world for decades. In 2021, the US business magazine lists 2,755 billionaires. At the top is Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. He passed Tesla mastermind Elon Musk again this year. Kevin David Lehmann made it to midfield on the list and to the top of the youngest super-rich. That brings him and his family of entrepreneurs, for better or worse, international attention.
