Drugstore giant’s fleet: Rossmann no longer buys Teslas – because of Elon Musk

Elon Musk is causing trouble again – and Rossmann is making a statement

Elon Musk is always causing controversy. He was recently heavily criticized by the British government for a post on X about the right-wing extremist riots in Great Britain. The drugstore chain Rossmann is now drawing conclusions from Musk’s statements and behavior.

As the company based in Burgwedel announced today, it will not purchase any more Tesla vehicles for its fleet with immediate effect. This decision is based on the incompatibility between the statements of Tesla CEO Elon Musk and the values that Tesla represents with its products.

In its statement, Rossmann recalls a post by Musk from 2018 on X (then still Twitter), in which the tech billionaire and head of the electric car pioneer wrote: “Tesla exists to help reduce risk of catastrophic climate change, which affects all species on Earth.” But six years later, the founder seems to have moved away from this mission. “Elon Musk makes no secret of his support for Donald Trump. Trump has repeatedly called climate change a hoax – this attitude is in stark contrast to Tesla’s mission to contribute to environmental protection through the production of electric cars,” says Raoul Roßmann, spokesman for the management of Rossmann.

For this reason, the drugstore chain will no longer purchase Tesla models for its fleet in the future. Nevertheless, Rossmann will continue to use the current stock of Tesla vehicles – for reasons of sustainability and resource conservation, of course. However, for future orders for the fleet, the company promises to rely on alternative manufacturers and models.

Comments by Elon Musk on the right-wing and anti-Muslim riots in Great Britain have just caused outrage. Specifically, British government members are criticizing a post by the entrepreneur on his platform X. There, in response to an anti-immigration comment and a video of the riots, Musk wrote: “A civil war is inevitable.” The comment was completely irresponsible, said Justice Secretary Heidi Alexander to Times Radio. “We see police officers being seriously injured and buildings being set on fire.” Operators of online platforms must exercise their power responsibly. Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s spokesman had previously stressed that there was no justification for such comments. (Text with dpa material)
