The Macedonian Interior Ministry said marijuana was found in a vehicle of Macedonian police on the border between Albania and Montenegro, the Serbian daily Danas reported.
However, law enforcement officials say it is a pre-seized drug that has remained in the vehicle since 2016.
Montenegrin customs officers stopped the car, which had previously crossed the Albanian border without any problems, and found a large amount of drugs inside.
Citing unofficial sources from the Montenegrin police, Macedonian media also reported that high-ranking Interior Ministry officials were in the vehicle.
However, their identities have not been revealed and it is unknown whether they were arrested or deported. The Macedonian Interior Ministry claims that the vehicle in which the police officers traveled to Montenegro was seized in 2016 and the drugs have remained in the car since then.
“Employees in the sector for computer crime and digital forensic medicine went to Montenegro for training with an official vehicle from the fleet of the Ministry of Interior. It was previously purchased by the Agency for Management of Confiscated Property, and the customs administration seized it in action against drug trafficking. in 2016 “, explained by the Macedonian Ministry of Interior.
They emphasize that the Albanian prosecutor’s office has also confirmed that Interior Ministry officials have nothing to do with drugs. “Our colleagues have already been returned to Skopje. We have informed our prosecutor’s office about the whole case in order to take additional actions and clarify the inaccuracies,” said the Ministry of Interior of Northern Macedonia.
